Mrs. Lowe, Kindergarten Aide/Recess

This is my fifth year working here at MLA, although I have been a part of the MLA family for ten years. I volunteered for the first five of those years while my boys were here at school. Then I began subbing at recess. That transitioned into full time and also being an aide for kindergarten, which I love.

During my primary school years, I was one of the kids during free choice time that would be playing "school" with my friends. My mom was a teacher and I grew up wanting to be just like her. I took some other schooling routes in college, but obviously ended up back in education. I love teaching children and watching their minds click when they understand a concept or do a task themselves for the first time. The look on their face at that moment is priceless.

I was born and raised in SE Idaho. The first several years of my life I spent growing up on a small animal farm. In my school we took two weeks off in the fall for Spud Harvest, so I worked in my uncle's fields harvesting potatoes during those breaks. After college and beauty school, I went back east and was a nanny in Connecticut. I loved spending my off hours in Manhattan seeing the sites and going to Broadway shows.

Moving back to Idaho after being out east was a shock, so I moved to Portland to be near my sister. I met my husband Steven here. He is a local from Aloha. We have two sons that also attend(ed) MLA. Connor is going to be a freshman this year at Reynolds High and Jordan is starting 7th grade at MLA Middle. Last year we adopted a dog named Nisha. She loves to play ball and go on walks, so during our summer quarantine we have gone on family walks every night.

I enjoy working in my yard pulling weeds and pruning bushes. It helps me relax. I have also gotten back into exercising at my CrossFit gym for my mental and physical health. For fun I love to play games with my family, sing and dance, and shop at thrift stores.

I love our kindergarten team, we have fun teaching together! It is an honor to be a part of your child's learning journey and watch as they discover who they are and how great they can be.
